We are proud to announce NFB Awards 2018 winners are...

  • Site of the Year Sponsored by Elliott, an ALGECO SCOTSMAN Company
    Colmore Tang Construction Limited - Park Regis Birmingham

    Judges comment: "The complexity of the Park Regis project and the finished building is particularly impressive and shows how great design, collaborative working, and attention to detail produce outstanding results."

  • Collaboration of the Year
    Baxall Construction Limited - Skinners’ Kent Primary School

    Judge comment: "Understanding client needs and collaborating early on with the stakeholders not only achieved the planning and programming requirements of the project but the use of BIM and Soft Landings collaboration process delivered a high element of end user engagement and ensured the objectives of the project were surpassed. An excellent demonstration."

    Highly commended went to Henry Boot Construction Limited with their Olympic Legacy Park project.

    Judge comment: "Olympic Legacy Park is a great project and a shining example of providing social value and reaching high levels of corporate social responsibility. Some excellent examples of training and skills development through collaboration contributed to the success of this project."

  • Innovation in Project Delivery
    Baxall Construction Limited - Cradle Hill Primary School

    Judges comment: "Baxall has demonstrated the best of the best capabilities of the construction industry in terms of working with the client and supply chain in a long term relationship and effectively bringing innovation and new technologies to meet the client needs."

    Kent Building Developments Limited were awarded highly commended for their Hob Moor Terrace project.

    Judges comment: "The modular and innovative design of the Passivhaus is impressive, as is the implementation and futureproofing applied by Kent Building Developments. The ‘Smart Electronic Intelligent Systems’ embedded within the house meet energy challenges and ensure the satisfaction and well being of the end users when they move in and in the future."                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

  • Training Programme of the Year – open to industry Sponsored by A-Plant
    Walker Construction Limited

    Judge comment: "Walker Construction has an excellent training programme. The company has made a switch from taking a reactive to a proactive approach to training with brilliant results  and the mental health support offered is very forward thinking too."

    Highly commended went to Randall Orchard Construction Limited.

    Judge comment: "Randall Orchard demonstrates an admirable commitment to training, especially with the work that they do with local schools, understanding the importance of engaging with the younger generation in order to address the skills shortage faced by the industry."

  • New Build Project of the Year (up to £5.5m turnover) Sponsored by Weir Waste Services
    Verto Homes - Island Reach

    Judge comment: "Island Reach has been a huge success and clearly demonstrates Verto’s commitment to building high quality, sustainable, homes that can be enjoyed for years to come."

  • New Build Project of the Year (over £5.5m turnover) Sponsored by Weir Waste Services
    Henry Boot Construction Limited - Rudding Park Spa

    Judge comment: "Rudding Park Spa is a brilliant example of improving the built environment. Henry Boot took great care to create a show stopping building, while preserving the historic landscape, with outstanding results."

    Highly commended:
    S E H French Limited - Vajrasana Retreat Centre

    Judge comment: "The endorsement of the client and the architect highlights the attention to detail put into the Vajrasana Retreat Centre site by S E H French. An excellent example of how a collaborative construction project can benefit all parties involved."

    Herbert H Drew & Son - Albert Road

    Judges comment: "Herbert H Drew can be commended for ensuring that the highest health and safety standards were met at each stage of their Albert Road project. They demonstrated great consideration for the community they were working in."

  • Heritage Project of the Year
    O Seaman & Son Limited - Cupola House

    Judge comment: "The Cupola stands out for the remarkable approach to health & safety, collaborative working, the engineering challenges that were overcome and the wonderful symbolism of a phoenix rising from the ashes! Really inspiring."

    The highly commended trophy for this category went to Bolt & Heeks Limited, The Royal Parks Brompton Cemetery.

    Judge comment: "Brompton Park Cemetery was a complex project delivered to spec, in budget, on time. Bolt & Heeks deonstrated the highest standard of professionalism throughout.

  • Inspirational Individual Award – open to industry
    Monika Slowikowska, Golden Houses Developments

    Judges comment: "Monika is clearly a driven businesswoman who has shown what is possible and has worked out solutions for some of the industry's more intractable problems. With her drive for quality, honesty and performance in business she is clearly an inspirational leader."

  • Refurbishment Project of the Year (up to £5.5m turnover) Sponsored by Built
    Kisiel Limited - 43 Birch Grove

    Judge comment: "Kiesel’s unwavering dedication to client engagement and quality provided a high spec finish that the people of Ealing, the client, and the developer can be proud of".

  • Refurbishment Project of the Year (over £5.5m turnover) Sponsored by Built
    Simpson (York) Limited - Springfield Health, The Chocolate Works
    Judge comment: "Simpson Ltd did an incredible job with their Chocolate Works project and delivered something not only unique but clearly cherished by its users. With important work completed before schedule, a creative approach to delivery and dedication to design, Simpson Ltd is a worthy winner of the Refurbishment Project of the Year award."

    T Manners & Sons Limited secured highly commended for the Side Gallery project.

    Judge comment: "The Side Gallery shows how great contractors deliver great projects. When considering the complexity of this refurbishment, it is impossible to ignore the quality of workmanship delivered under environmental pressures, yet T Manners succeeded with aplomb."

  • Housebuilder of the Year Award Sponsored by Midland Building
    Verto Homes

    Judge comment: "The Verto Homes entry forced it's way to the top by it's total design concept, management ethos and achievement of different and high objectives. What made this entry stand out was the company’s emphasis on sustainability and the method through which it was delivered." 

  • Apprentice of the Year Sponsored by CSCS
    Luke Chapman - Walker Construction Limited
  • Construction Employer of the Year Sponsored by B&CE
    Phelan Construction Limited

    Phelan Construction soared into the lead of a public vote that saw 1500 people take action to support the companies shortlisted for this award. A Phelan employee nominated the business as a ‘well-run company that has only the best interest of their clients at heart, and does not lose sight of the fact that their employees are their best asset’. There is clear evidence that employees are very proud to work at Phelan.
