Peterborough Builder Crafts Award Victory

A Peterborough construction firm has received a top honour at one of the regions most prestigious construction awards.

R G Carter Peterborough Ltd, which employs 60 people in its Peterborough office, received its prize for a 1.3 million extension to Uppingham School in Rutland, completed in August 2007.

The Building Industry Merit Awards for Craftsmanship recognises firms which demonstrate excellence in craftsmanship, either across a whole project or in an individual aspect such as stonework.

The Peterborough company is a division of the R G Carter Group. Founded in 1921, the family owned business has a turnover of over 270 million.

Six companies in the region demonstrated the level of craftsmanship required to gain an award this year. Three of the winners, including R G Carter, are members of the National Federation of Builders (NFB).

Andrew Percy, regional director of the NFB in the Midlands, said: Exceptional construction work is recognised by the Craftsmanship Awards, and R G Carters recent project in Rutland certainly fits this description. All three of our member firms that have received an honour are beacons of the excellent practice that the NFB is committed to promoting and supporting.

Paul Faux, director and general manager of R G Carter Peterborough, said: We are extremely proud of this achievement which is testimony to our highly professional and skilled employees, and which rewards our investments in training.
