NFB Recruits New Chief Executive

The National Federation of Builders has named Julia Evans as incoming chief executive of the 2,000-member strong organisation.

Mrs Evans was previously a director of the Strategic Rail Authority, responsible for delivering the industrys skills agenda across the 120,000-strong rail industry workforce.

Prior to that, she held a number of senior roles in general management and human resources in the fire, criminal justice and health sectors.

Mrs Evans, who holds an MBA from Warwick Business School, will take over from current chief executive Barry Stephens when he retires on 1 January 2006.

Commenting on the appointment, Mrs Evans said: "The NFB has a strong track record in designing and delivering bold new schemes for the industry, in partnership with a variety of stakeholders. Ive also been impressed by the focus of its policy work, which isnt afraid to challenge perceived wisdom on the big issues and strongly supports the sectors advancement.

"My immediate focus will be to continue its work in representing members best interests at all levels, promoting initiatives and ideas that contribute to, and safeguard, their productivity, profitability and professionalism."

John Robinson, chairman of the National Federation of Builders commented: "There are significant similarities between the rail and construction industries, and the board felt Julias background equipped her to lead the Federations senior management team in carrying forward the agenda.

"She has also demonstrated strong strategic vision and leadership in her previous roles, as well as an ability to deliver lasting change in the organsiations and industries that she has served."

The NFB represents some 2,000 builders and contractors across England and Wales through a network of eight regional offices. The aggregate turnover of its members accounts for more than 10 per cent of the industrys gross annual turnover.
