Stay Safe - Stay Away 2010

In 2009/10 the NFB’s popular Stay Safe, Stay Away children’s safety campaign is set to take on a new format aimed at making a bigger impact than previous years, to ensure that this key safety message reaches school children across the UK.

The summer will see a PR and poster campaign featuring last year’s prize-winning design. Plastic posters will be available to all NFB members.  In addition, the 2008 winning school, Badger Hill Primary from Brotton, Saltburn-on-Sea, have recreated their poster onto a super-size canvas.  This is currently being displayed on site hoarding by North East member, Walter Thompson (part of F T Construction Group) at Archibald Primary School, Middlesbrough where they are working.

Molly Broughton, last years national winner said: “In our village there was a new estate being built so the site manager came to talk to us about the dangers of building sites.  If children enter a site with no protection they could be injured. We were told building sites looked exciting but are not playgrounds. That's why I entered the NFB's poster competition. I made my poster clear and bright and won the regional and national competition.  It is now displayed on building sites around the country. Hopefully children will take notice and there will be no accidents during holidays.”

The promotion will be backed by a proactive PR/media campaign all through to the major launch in September 2009.  It is hoped that the campaign for 2009/10 will include an on-line competition with prizes awarded on a regional and national basis.  These have already been obtained from Merlin Entertainments who have offered tickets at various venues from around the country, such as Legoland, Alton Towers, London Eye, London Dungeon amongst other venues.

Julia Evans, Chief Executive for the NFB said: “We are absolutely delighted B&CE are funding the campaign again this year.  This will help us considerably with moving forwards with this key project, something I know which is at the heart of many of our members.”

Brian Griffiths, CEO of B&CE Benefits Scheme said: "We are delighted to show our support again for the NFB’s ‘Stay Safe, Stay Away Campaign’.  As an organisation committed to the personal well-being of everyone in construction, we are only too aware of the health and safety risks within the industry.  This is a truly worthwhile campaign as we need to continue to draw attention to these risks and increase the younger generation’s awareness to ensure we are doing all we can to keep them safe".
